Parish Church News

In December we start a new venture with Café Church. This will begin on Sunday 16th December at 10.30am in The Old Chapel, Gotherington, and will be our regular service on the third Sunday of each month.

As we look forward to Christmas we have lots of special services on offer at different venues.

On Sunday 2nd December the Christingle Service will be held at 4pm in St John The Baptist Church, Oxenton.

On Sunday 23rd December the Carol service takes place in Gotherington Village Hall at 4pm. This ever-popular service includes readings, both Biblical and contemporary, by a variety of local residents, and is followed by traditional refreshments. The village hall is always full and it is a good chance to meet friends and neighbours.

For children the Crib Service at St Martin De Tours, Woolstone, is a must on Christmas Eve at 4pm. Those who did not make it to the Carol Service say that this is the start of their Christmas festivities, which may be one explanation for why the church is always packed. The other could of course be that it is a fun service with plenty of congregation participation.

More contemplative, the Midnight Communion starts at 11.30pm in Oxenton Church and is always well-supported by residents of the three villages.

The climax is the Communion Service on Christmas Day at 11.15am in Woolstone Church.

This year the service on Sunday 30th December will be a Benefice Communion Service at 10.30am in Oxenton Church, when we welcome worshippers from Bishops Cleeve and Southam to join us.

We hope that you will join us at some of these services. And if not, Happy Christmas!
